History of the Siberian Husky
As the name suggests, the ancestors of the Siberian Husky are Siberian sled dogs. The nomadic peoples living there have been breeding their tough and enduring dogs for centuries. In 1909, Siberian fur trader William Goosak and his dainty dogs entered the All Alaska Sweepstakes Sled Dog Race for the first time. Since the dogs were a lot smaller than the Alaskan Malamutes currently popular in Alaska, the other participants smiled at him. They called his dogs “huskies” – a swear word for the Inuit at the time.
When he took third place in the demanding race with his “Siberian Huskies”, the curiosity of the other mushers was aroused. The dogs were able to maintain a high pace over long distances. The Siberian Husky is a sociable and sporty dog breed with an original character. The dogs are considered friendly, gentle and people-oriented, which is why they don’t like being alone. They prefer to be with you everywhere and always and get along with other dogs without any problems. The dogs develop a close relationship with their owners and go through thick and thin with them. However, many representatives of the breed have a strong hunting instinct.
