The ancient Greeks already knew this. 1,681 dogs and their owners have been observed and examined for six and a half years – and the result is amazing.

“Just as humans change over time, so does a dog’s personality change with age,” explains William Chopik, professor of psychology and study leader. And, above all, they are developing more and more in accordance with the personality of their owner.

Your Dog Will Become More Like You Over Time

Everyone knows that the dog and the owner become more and more alike over time. Research by William Chopik now provides information that humans have a strong influence on the traits of their four-legged friends.

Scientists have found that open and active people have dogs that are not afraid or aggressive. On the other hand, introverted and fearful dog owners increasingly have four-legged friends around them, who tend to be less relaxed in their surroundings.

According to the study, many personality traits were already formed during puppyhood: if the new owner of the dog is relaxed with his new family member, the dog also appears to be more calm and uninhibited later. Conversely, cramped and insecure owners lead to nervous and restless dogs.
