Research: Dogs Have a Huge Impact on the Human Psyche

It has already been scientifically proven that dogs have a positive effect on the life of their best friend and even prolong his life. Contact between humans and their four-legged friends also has a positive effect on a person’s mood. But researchers at the University of British Columbia have now found that one contact with a fur nose is enough for a clearly measurable effect on the human psyche.

First Lesson with Dogs Was Already Successful

At the University of Miami, students can take part in therapy sessions where they can play with, pet, or talk to four-legged friends. After the first lesson, the students reported that they felt loved, accepted, and lifted up by the affection and warmth of the animals. Researchers in British Columbia also found this effect in their study. So now it is scientifically proven that short-term exposure to fur noses has a huge impact on human mental health.

Dogs Can Reduce Negative Feelings

Study participants reported after the session that they no longer felt so stressed, and also felt happier. They still felt they had more energy even 10 hours after therapy. After the session, participants had fewer negative feelings during the day than students who did not take part in therapy.

Dogs are Better than Humans

Our best friend does not judge or criticize people, even when they are sick or disabled. Contact with fur noses is especially important when people are suffering from depression or anxiety, according to research. However, you should still see your doctor if these conditions are affecting your life. Dogs can help people who are not easily accepted by society or who are often frustrated and traumatized. Our four-legged friends really only want one thing: to love and be loved.
