The Ornate Wrasse is native to the Mediterranean Sea and the Eastern Atlantic Ocean, from Portugal to Senegal and the Azores. They prefer rocky reefs, lagoons, and seagrass beds, where they can hide in crevices and feed on small invertebrates. They are a common sight in shallow waters, up to 50 meters deep. The Ornate Wrasse is not a migratory species and tends to stay in the same area throughout its life.
