Origin of the Phalene

Phalene is thought to have originated in Europe. However, this cannot be clearly traced back. Italian frescoes and oil paintings from the 14th century already show this breed together with children and people of the nobility.

Because the Phalene was originally bred purely as a companion dog and had no specific job, it found great popularity among royalty. This was also the case for several centuries at the French aristocratic court.

The Phalene is a great breed for just being there for its owner and keeping them company. The nobility of the time already knew that.
