Nebelung Cat: Information, Pictures, and Care

The Nebelung is spirited, playful, and calm at the same time. The intelligent cat with green eyes likes to follow her favorite people everywhere. Find out everything about the Nebelung cat breed here.

Nebelung cats are among the most popular pedigree cats among cat lovers. Here you will find the most important information about the Nebelung.

Origin Of The Nebelung

The Nebelung actually came about by accident in the USA in the Nebelheim Cattery of the breeder Cora Cobb. The ancestors of the Nebelung, named Siegfried and Brunhilde, were not long-haired Russian Blues, but very pretty mixes with possible Russian Blue and Angora influences. In 1997 the Nebelung was fully recognized as a breed by the TICA. However, the breed is still very rare outside of the USA to this day.

The Appearance Of The Nebelung

The Nebelung is a medium-sized, slightly elongated cat that is muscular yet graceful. It has long, slender legs and narrow oval paws, and a medium-length head with a flat skull. Her nose looks straight, the whiskers are accentuated. The Nebelung’s ears are large and slightly pointed. The large green oval eyes are set wide apart.

Coat And Colors Of The Nebelung

The Nebelung is characterized by its medium-length, silky, soft fur. The fur is dense due to the existing undercoat. Fluctuations with the season are normal. The hair on the tail is longer than on the body. The breed is only recognized as one color: Pure, even blue with a distinct silver sheen (silver tipping).

The Temperament Of The Nebelung

As a young animal, the Nebelung is extremely spirited and playful. She climbs quickly and skillfully and likes to conquer the highest places on the scratching post. A Nebelung becomes very attached to their family. As an adult, she often chooses a favorite person or two who she would like to spend the whole day with. Nebelung Cats are, so to speak, the perfect household helpers who look after things in the kitchen when mum is chopping vegetables, lie on her lap while eating, and, of course, also spend the night in the bedroom.

Barring a few exceptions, Nebelung cats are initially very reserved towards strangers. New things are initially viewed skeptically and from a safe distance and only welcomed after a thorough examination. The Nebelung breed is considered to be very intelligent, affectionate, quiet, and sensitive.

Keeping And Caring For The Nebelung

Because the Nebelung is clingy and often focused on her favorite few people, a large, noisy household is less suited to this cat: loud people and running kids aren’t really her thing, unless she’s already been raised in a busy household. She likes it better in a quieter, smaller family that has time for her.

The Nebelung can be kept in the apartment if it is not too small and is equipped with climbing and play facilities. Their owners should take enough time to deal with their fogging. If the cat gets access to nature, then this should only take place in a secured balcony, outdoor enclosure, or garden.

For a semi-longhair cat, a Nebelung requires very little grooming. Brushing about once a week is sufficient, as the fur does not tend to knot as much. The loose hair must be removed, otherwise, the cat will swallow it when cleaning, and hairballs can form in the digestive tract. When it comes to food selection, the Nebelung is often picky.
