Can a dog stay outside when the temperature is below zero?
Below zero temperatures are particularly critical for small dog breeds such as the Affenpinscher, Chihuahua or Miniature Spaniel. Dogs weighing more than 10 kilograms tolerate temperatures down to around minus 7 degrees better. Nevertheless, they can suffer health damage. Usually they don’t like to be outside when it’s cold.

When the temperatures are below zero, it is important that the dogs keep moving – as long as they move, they do not freeze. Long waiting breaks, during which the dog has to sit obediently “at heel” while the owner chats, for example, should be avoided at all costs.
