Here’s How to Recognize a Dog’s Stomach Pain

The stomach growls, the dog is restless, stretching hard, drooling, and licking its mouth: these can all be signs of abdominal pain in the dog. Most dogs, like many other animals, only show symptoms when they really feel bad. How do I recognize the signs correctly and what can I do to relieve pain? We will give you some tips.

Stomach pain can be caused by a variety of reasons: infection, poor diet, or digestive problems. Illnesses such as food intolerances can also be a trigger. Like us humans, dogs can of course also suffer from abdominal pain. However, unlike us, dogs do not understand why they feel bad and in pain. Therefore, you should always keep a close eye on your dog and act quickly if he is suffering.

Symptoms of Abdominal Pain in Dogs

The following symptoms may indicate that your dog is suffering from abdominal pain:

  • cramped posture
  • anxiety
  • frequent stretching
  • frequent licking of the muzzle
  • touch sensitivity
  • loss of appetite
  • diarrhea (Caution: At the latest, when you find light or dark blood in your feces, be sure to see
  • your veterinarian!)

This is How You Help Your Dog

If your furry nose has mild indigestion and diarrhea, it is advisable to feed it a light meal. If your dog has diarrhea, make sure that he wants to go for a walk in between – home trouble is unpleasant not only for you but also for your pet. Otherwise, leave the dog alone, he will probably feel the need for rest and sleep. He should be close to you so that you can monitor him if the condition worsens.

If you suspect that this is not all, and your loved one is in severe pain, you should definitely contact your veterinarian. He can, for example, give the dog an antispasmodic syringe and/or, if necessary, inject something for nausea. Under no circumstances should you give medications to your animals without consulting your veterinarian, especially from your first aid kit! For example, pain relievers like ibuprofen are toxic to dogs and can be fatal.

Important!

Each animal is different, so dogs can of course react differently to pain. While some animals become lethargic and lethargic, others may react aggressively when in extreme pain. Therefore, it is very important that you are aware of your dog’s normal behavior in order to register any changes in behavior. As a pet owner, you usually just feel like there is something wrong with your fur nose. In general, see your vet again if you’re not sure.
