Theories about the Chihuahua’s origin

Some experts believe that Chihuahuas are descended from a breed of dog called the Techichi, which was kept by the Toltec people of Mexico in the 9th century. Others believe that Chihuahuas are descended from the Chinese Crested dog, which was brought to Mexico by Spanish traders in the 16th century. Still, others believe that Chihuahuas are a cross between the Techichi and the Chinese Crested.
Evidence of Chihuahua-like dogs in ancient history
There is evidence of small dog breeds similar to the Chihuahua in ancient history. Archaeologists have discovered small dog figurines in Mexico that date back to the 5th century BCE. These figurines depict dogs with round heads, large ears, and curved tails, which are similar to the Chihuahua breed. Additionally, there are records of small dogs being kept as pets by the Aztecs, who ruled Mexico from the 14th to the 16th century.
