Floor Heating in the Aquarium: This is Important for Installation!

The right temperature in the aquarium is crucial for the well-being of its animal and plant inhabitants. If you attach particular importance to lush plant growth, we recommend installing underfloor heating. If you use sand as a substrate for your aquarium, floor heating is generally out of the question. There is a risk of heat accumulation here, which would have a negative effect on the water quality and, last but not least, pose a danger to the aquarium glass.

Increased Bacterial Growth Promotes Plant Growth

Due to the increased circulation of oxygen in the soil, more bacteria are formed. Therefore, the floor heating primarily supports the growth of plants in the tank. The circulation of the water ensures that the aquarium plants are constantly supplied with sufficient nutrients, it supports the breakdown of organic matter and thus prevents the formation of rot.

Appropriate Use of Underfloor Heating

In order to maintain the microorganisms in the substrate, it is necessary to have the heating on at all times, since only then is uniform aeration with oxygen guaranteed. An exception is when outside temperatures rise above 30 °C in summer.

Difference Between Floor Heating and Floor Floodlights

Underfloor heating uses power control to prevent overheating. In doing so, it sometimes heats up the floor, switches off, and releases the heat. Only when the temperature on the ground drops does it heat up again and the cycle starts again. In comparison, a floor washer is an uncontrolled heating system. A cable heater emits heat constantly, thus ensuring even heat distribution and optimal living conditions for animals and plants.

Installation of Floor Heating in the Aquarium

It doesn’t matter whether you have floor heating or floor floodlights – you lay both heating cables in a spiral in the aquarium floor and fasten them with suction cups. You can make the installation a little easier if you use a heating mat. Then you spread the flooring over it. The optimum temperature difference between the warmer ground and the slightly cooler water is 2-3°C.

Underfloor Heating – Just a Supplement for the Heating Rod

Please note: Floor heating does not replace the use of a heating rod, since – as the name suggests – it is really only responsible for heating the floor covering in the aquarium. If you were to use it to heat the entire pool, it would have to be set so high that the substrate would overheat.
