Dogs or Cats: Who Makes People Happier?

Do dogs or cats make their owners happier? This question will probably forever remain a controversial topic among animal lovers, and the answer seems impossible to find. A survey conducted in the United States revealed something surprising and gave a fairly clear result.

General Social Research is a barometer of US politics and conducts a series of polls on political and social issues in the US every year. The published 2018 poll focuses on the issue of happiness and satisfaction with pets for the first time, and its results will not please some animal lovers.

Surprise for Pet Owners

From 1,500 to 3,000 subjects take part in the survey annually. They were first asked if they had a pet and if they considered themselves happy.

The scientists then compiled a list of responses and found significant differences depending on the pet: 36 percent of dog owners said they were happy, compared with 18 percent of cat owners.

According to a survey, dogs make you twice as happy as cats.

Poll: Dogs Make You Twice as Happy

Of course, it’s not so easy to say. Because: 32% of the respondents said that they are happy – they do not have pets.

When asked if owners are seeking refuge with their pet, how often they play with it, and whether they see their animal as a family member, dog owners always lie in front of the cat owners.

It is doubtful that the survey is truly representative and applicable to animal lovers.
