Understanding a dog’s sense of smell
Dogs have a highly developed sense of smell that is much more sensitive than that of humans. They have up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to only 6 million in humans. This means that dogs are able to detect smells that are imperceptible to us, such as the scent of a drop of blood diluted in 55 gallons of water.
