Can You Go Jogging with a Chihuahua?

You can definitely go jogging with an adult and healthy Chihuahua. However, you have to approach the training slowly at the beginning and run rather shorter distances at a moderate pace in the beginning.

Keep in mind that your Chihuahua must first build up its condition before it can accompany you on a “real” jog.

Under certain circumstances, a short check by the veterinarian should be carried out beforehand, which can rule out heart disease or a tendency to PL (patellar luxation), for example.

Pay attention to signs of fatigue and stop training if the Chihuahua can no longer do it. You can then carry it back.

And please don’t expect the same mileage as a Dalmatian. Your Chihuahua should help set the pace and you may need to slow down a bit. Incidentally, running on soft surfaces such as meadows or forest floors is ideal and easy on the joints.

Please take breaks along the way (if necessary) and also offer the dog something to drink.
Of course, you shouldn’t go jogging with puppies. Wait until your Chihuahua is at least 18 months old.
