Build a Bond with the Cat – This is How it Works!

Cats are more popular than ever in German households. The joys of having a fluffy four-legged friend by your side are manifold. Every cat owner experiences friendship with their kitty in a very individual way. However, all relationships are based on mutual love and trust, and it is these qualities that particularly appeal to lovers of small house tigers. Common life and everyday life arise from a mutual feeling of affection and respect for the other. However, the relationship does not always run smoothly from the start, and sometimes really disturbing relationships can even arise. Here are a few tips to ensure that everything goes well for you and your velvet paw. You can pay attention to this if you have a new cat in the house or if any problems should arise later.

It Depends on the Cat

Believe it or not, not only does every cat have its own unique character, but each species can also be ascribed its own basic characteristics. You should inform yourself in detail about these before you bring a cat into your home. Because the right temperament and the specific needs of the kitty are of course also decisive for the success of your relationship. These should definitely correspond to you, your lifestyle, and the conditions at home. Because a cat that feels comfortable is also much easier to handle.

For example, if you don’t have a yard and/or adequate climbing facilities in your home, then choosing a Norwegian Forest Cat might pose problems. These animals are still very close to their original wild form and therefore have a strong hunting instinct. However, if your cat doesn’t have an opportunity to hunt or climb, it can cause him stress. This, in turn, will have a very negative impact on your relationship.

Another example is Siamese cats. These highly social velvet paws usually always live together in groups, are very communicative, social, and affectionate. However, they quickly get a feeling of loneliness when the Siamese cats are not surrounded by other cats. This also creates stress and a bad starting point for your relationship.

Persian cats, on the other hand, are absolute relaxation animals. They just love being by themselves and lounging. But that doesn’t mean they should be kept alone. In addition, they get along very well with people in general. However, these very fluffy specimens need daily grooming to avoid knots and tangles. This can be a very good way to build trust and create a strong bond with you. However, if you neglect to groom, this will make the house cat anything but happy and will talk to you.

So always find out as much information as possible about the breed of cat you want and talk to friends and acquaintances about their experiences with these animals. In addition, it is of course important to get to know the desired specimen in detail before the cat moves in with you. This is particularly important for kitties from animal shelters because they have sometimes had traumatic experiences with people and therefore find it difficult to gain new trust. But they are also willing to give endless love if they have an affectionate relationship with you.

A Loving Owner and the Right Home

As already mentioned, it is always essential that the given circumstances also correspond to the needs of the animals. Especially with cats, this can be a deciding factor in the success or failure of your relationship. You should also make sure to choose a kitty that suits your lifestyle. So, for example, being able to be alone often or not being disturbed by loud music. It’s also extremely important to make your home cat-friendly.

This means that you provide sufficient play and hiding places and offer your velvet paw enough places to retreat. Ideally, you get two velvet paws at the same time so that boredom and loneliness do not arise. Because a relaxed cat and a loving owner are the basis for building a strong, healthy bond. Give the little one a solid place to sleep and food, and also a toilet that even offers a bit of privacy at best. If everything is taken care of, you have already done an important part, because from now on the cat sees you as its provider and itself as an important part of the community in your home. The little cat feels valued and respected.

Love Comes from People

As with all social relationships, whether with humans or animals, the basis is trust. Now there are just a few important things to keep in mind. First of all, accept that affection must always come from people first. Only then does the cat respond with love, but this is often stunning and characterized by deep trust. In order to maintain this in the long run, you should give your kitty one thing above all – and that is time. Sufficient attention and interaction, not only when cuddling, but also when playing and chasing through the house, guarantee a lasting deep bond and the perception as a friend and companion. Sleeping together can also help, although people have had different experiences.

You should also allow your cat the time-out it needs when it is stressed or reacting aggressively because often you don’t do it any better with well-intentioned cuddles, but only pressurize it. Another thing that is of absolute importance is patience, because not only little kittens, but also big cats have no relation to material values.

So please react with patience and not with anger when your cat spills the contents of the coffee cup over your keyboard or something similar. The worst thing would be to hit him for it and react with aggressiveness. Unfortunately, if you want to live with an animal, sometimes you have to accept things and be a little more careful with your things, then it also works with your clumsy friend.
