Pigeon fanciers take care of their pigeons every day. This creates trust between animals and humans. The same clothes can further deepen the base. A white coat is recommended for pigeon fanciers, which is also worn by the judges.
The nature of pigeons is fundamentally different. While some breeds are rather calm and trusting, others have retained the character of the wild rock-pigeon as a fugitive bird. Every breeder must select the breed that suits him and his keeping conditions. Only then will he be happy with her in the long run and also be successful at shows.
No matter what temperament a pigeon breed has, it will definitely get used to its breeder. In the case of rather fleeting races, however, this is always characterized by a certain tension. The pigeons are constantly able to take off quickly to go to a safe distance. It’s just in their blood. Total tameness will be demanded of them in vain. And yet it is a huge advantage if the pigeons are familiar to their breeder.
Every active breeder knows how pigeons react when the general conditions change. A hectic interaction or new clothes are often enough to create unrest. It is not for nothing that pigeon fanciers wear the same clothes on their daily walk to the pigeon loft. A work coat is usually worn. Even small things like a hat of a different color or something like that fundamentally changes the situation.
Control Rounds with White Clothing
If you are already wearing the same clothes, then you can take advantage of this fact. Because even if you do everything as a breeder to create trust in the pigeons, they come into contact with strangers at the latest at the exhibitions. The most important person to be named there is the judge. He has to take a close look at the pigeons in order to be able to assess their breeding value accordingly. Each judge wears a white coat. A completely new situation for many pigeons.
The breeders know. So it makes sense to prepare the pigeons for the exhibition situation. It makes sense to also use a white coat for the daily inspection. For many fanciers, it is then unusual to go to the pigeons with a white coat. And in the beginning, the pigeons will react differently than they are used to. But after a short time, they got used to it. At the latest then you realize how adaptable pigeons are.
But it would be wrong if you only put on the white coat for feeding. Personal experience shows that it makes sense to use the effect on every patrol; especially when the young animals are picked up. So they get used to this outfit from day one and are conditioned to it.
As so often, it’s the little things that make the difference. A pigeon that presents itself calmly is one of them. And if a white coat can contribute to this, then one should use this knowledge.
