The origin of the Treeing Walker Coonhound is a longer story. Descended from the English foxhound, it was used by the Virginia Hounds of Kentucky to assist in hunting and tracking animals. But they were unsuitable for pursuing large animals.
Around 1900, the Walker dogs became known in their final breed form. And was increasingly used in hunting and to draw attention to animals, because it was specially trained for that. Since 2012, this breed has been part of the regular AKC breed.
