Dogs are known to gobble up their food as quickly as possible. Whether they’re famished or just had a few treats during a workout.
In the wild, one can observe that people rest after eating. We have forgotten this in our hectic world and often do not pay attention to it with our dogs.
Also known in dogs is the so-called gastric torsion. It results from gorging on food and impaired digestion. So refrain from the following 5 actions after eating your pet!
Don’t pick up your dog afterwards!
Admittedly, this rarely happens to a shepherd or Newfoundland dog, but our little one in particular has to put up with it all too often.
Even a Chihuahua, Maltese or Miniature Poodle needs rest to be able to digest properly. Picking it up too quickly can even lead to vomiting!
Don’t go jogging with him!
Since we humans like to ignore how our bodies actually work, we shovel cereal, energy bars and the like into our stomachs in large quantities to have enough energy for the jog in the park.
This may not bother you badly, but you should refrain from subjecting your dog to this burden after eating and provoking digestive problems up to severe nausea and vomiting!
Don’t encourage him to play challenging games!
You should also refrain from playing with the children after eating. We know that the dear little ones like to sit next to the dog and just wait for him to finish eating as soon as possible.
However, the same applies to playing after eating as to jogging. There is no need for quieter sniffing and searching games with treats anyway and romping through the garden with the children can wait a good hour!
Don’t feed your dog right before visitors arrive!
While you should have an approximate schedule for feeding your dog and stick to it, if you have guests or visitors, avoid feeding them immediately beforehand.
Visitors, especially acquaintances, will want to deal with him and also expect his usual joyful, lively greeting. But with a full stomach this is just annoying!
Don’t take the bowl away from him once it’s empty!
By providing your dog with food, you are in a position of power over him.
The immediate removal of the food bowl demonstratively confirms this feeling and will unsettle your dog in the long run and thereby endanger its digestion!
