The German Shorthaired Hound was bred in Germany in the 19th century with the participation of hounds and pointing dogs, in particular Foxhounds, Bloodhounds, and Spanish and English Shorthaired Hounds. This breed is one of the versatile hunting breeds, able to track down and bring back prey.
With its soft, short-haired fall and harmonious body line, the German Shorthaired Pointer is one of the largest and most popular German hunting dogs. Hunters refer to him as “DK” or “Shorthaired Pointer” for short. Since its ancestors were European pointers, the German Shorthaired Pointer has a very good sense of smell, a pronounced enthusiasm for hunting, and obedience.
