5 Reasons To Adopt An Animal From A Shelter

If you are thinking about a new four-legged companion, the first thing you should do is go to the animal shelter. There are enough reasons for this.

Are you looking for a new four-legged companion? Regardless of whether it should be a furry friend wagging its tail or a purring velvet paw: the following arguments show why adopting an animal from a home is the better alternative to buying from a breeder.

You give the animal a second chance

In many minds, the prejudice has settled that animals from the home have behavioral problems. Although each of these creatures is shaped by its history, the reasons why an animal companion has to wait in the shelter for a new home are very different. The animal is rarely to blame: perhaps the dog was abandoned or the former owner died and there is no one who can take the animal in. Health problems of the owners are often a reason why completely normal and healthy animals end up in the home. Very often these are not “problem animals”.

But even if the animal has suffered a “crack” – you can give the dog or cat new courage and a second chance with a lot of empathy, patience, and affection. After everything these animals have done with us humans, e.g. T. have already experienced, they have more than earned it. With a bit of professional support, any existing behavioral disorders can often be remedied. And the effort is worth it: by adopting an animal shelter soul, you give yourself an eternally grateful companion.

You help several animal souls at the same time

Every year, several hundred thousand animals end up in animal shelters, where they hopefully await people who will take them to a new home. However, animal shelters only have limited capacities, which is why in some places sick and elderly animals are euthanized if the premises are not sufficient. Although this is forbidden in Germany, euthanasia occurs again and again in other European countries.

Therefore, if you choose to take a lonely soul out of the home, you may even save two animal lives: you give your chosen animal a new, safe place to live, and its rescue frees up a place for another animal in need. This also gives it a second chance with the prospect of a loving home.

And even if you rescue an animal from a German home, you are doing the four-legged friends there a favor. Because every animal that waits there less for new owners means less confinement and less stress so that the remaining animals are more relaxed and can hope for a new home.

You have the greatest choice

You may not yet have a clear idea of what your future companion should look like and what personality it should have. Then you’ve come to the right place at the animal shelter because nowhere is the selection bigger. Numerous small and large animals from young to old await you in the home, from which you can choose the ideal one for you.

These dogs spend a particularly long time in the home.

Therefore, take enough time when choosing your new pet and, above all, don’t just be guided by visual impressions, but look for an animal that above all suits you in terms of character. In the best-case scenario, it sparks as soon as you meet a lonely animal shelter resident. In addition, you should let the employees of the animal shelter help you with the decision because they know the peculiarities of their protégés and can give you good advice.

They do not support rogue breeders

It’s a sad fact that breeding purebred animals are often a cruel and profitable business. The defenseless creatures are often raised under inhuman and inappropriate conditions, often separated from their mothers far too early, and then sold for a lot of money. How the animals fare is not important to the traders, because the only thing that counts for them is the highest possible profit.

The main goal of animal shelters is to help animals in need and give them a chance at a better life. By rescuing a pet, you can do your part. If you decide to get a dog or a cat from the home, make sure that you do not support the inhumane conditions of dubious animal breeders.

You have lower acquisition costs

Last but not least, adopting a shelter animal also has financial benefits for you. While you have to pay high sums of money to the breeder for pedigree animals, the purchase of a lonely animal shelter soul is significantly cheaper. The protection fee, which flows back in full to animal welfare and serves to cover the costs, is between 200 and 300 euros for dogs, depending on their size, and usually only between 70 and 100 euros for cats.

In addition, the animal shelters z. T. the costs for medicines – in some cases even for life – if it is clear that the animal is ill and dependent on it. All animal shelter animals are also checked by a veterinarian and are usually microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed.

We would be very happy if you would give a four-legged friend from the shelter a second chance. Thank you very much.
