Female dog names with a T briefly explained

Tami

Tami is the abbreviation of the female given name Tamara. It is the Russian variant of the biblical name Tamar.

The name Tamara is very popular internationally. In Germany, it is comparatively rarely awarded. The short form is used even more rarely as a girl’s name. In the US, on the other hand, Tami is quite popular.

The root of the name “Tamar” is the ancient Hebrew name for the date and the date palm. This makes Tami a great name for a bitch who will later have and nurse puppies.

Terry

Terry is an English name for which several derivations have survived. The first name Terry is used as a short form of the female name Theresa and Therese.

The female given name Theresa developed from the Hispano-Roman name Tarasia. A number of saints and worldly celebrities bear the name in this form.

Another theory traces the name back to the 11th century. At that time, the French Normans conquered the British Isles. This spread the French name Thierry in England. And so Thierry evolved into the fairly common surname Terry.

Tonya

The female first name Tonya developed in the United States as a short form of the name Antonia. It is believed that the name Tanya served as a model.

From the late 1960s, Tonya became very popular as a female given name in North America.

If you want to name your bitch Tonya, there are all kinds of US role models available. For example, pro bodybuilder Tonya Knight might become the namesake of a blonde female retriever.

Trudi

Trudi is the diminutive form of the Old High German girl’s name Gertrud. Originally, the first name meant a strong spearman.

The name fits quite well if your bitch is supposed to fetch sticks. Instead of dangerous spears, the diminutive form is much more appropriate.

There are also very modern Trudis that you can use as namesakes. Like the Jamaican soccer player Trudi Sudan Carter.

Male dog names with a T briefly explained

Takeshi

Takeshi is a Japanese given name for boys. It means bamboo, bamboo trunk, or “protector”. From a Japanese point of view, these two meanings are very close. Because the mighty bamboo plant protects many Japanese houses with its strong trunk.

From a male perspective, Takeshi is a great name. After all, of course, he always wants to protect his owner.

Takeshi is especially good for very small dogs like Chihuahuas. They usually have a “lion heart” anyway. And finally, bamboo is also available as a bonsai.

Tasso

The origin of the first name Tasso is not entirely uncomplicated. In southern Germany and Austria, Tasso is known as a diminutive of Tassilo.

This male first name has West Germanic roots and was formerly called Taginbert. Taginbert means “bright as the day”. And with that, Tasso fits very well for a healthy male with a shiny coat.

Another derivation of the name brings the name in connection with the badger. According to this, Tasso derives from Old High German dahs and Middle Latin taxus.

Timmy

Timmy is the pet form of the male given name Tim.

And there are three possible origins for the name Tim. On the one hand as an ancient Greek short form of Timotheos, the God-fearing. Or as a short form of Timon, the esteemed and honorable.

And on the other hand as a Germanic short form of Dietmar. Then the name stands for “the well-known and famous among the people”. Now all you have to do is choose which declaration suits your dog best.

Tucker

Tucker is used as a male given name, which developed from the family name.

Tucker is a common surname in English-speaking countries. The origin of the name lies in the Old English job title of the cloth maker, the Tucian.

And that fits very well. Especially when your boor dog tends to turn every cloth into a pile of little scraps.

Hopefully, we were able to show you how much fun name derivation can be. In addition to a name for your four-legged friend, it also promotes general education.

Start choosing a name in good time. And choose several favorite names. Then you will quickly notice which name suits the bitch or the male best.
