10 Things You Should Know About Labradors and Cats

#4 Labradors are hunting dogs

Specialists distinguish between working labs and show labs. Some (also called American Labradors) are used for hunting and work, the others (also called English lines) are more like pets.

Of course, the dogs of the show line are better suited for socializing with a cat. BUT: You can't see that in the dogs, you can only find that out through the breeding papers.

#5 Labradors are also family dogs

Labrador Retrievers are among the most popular dog breeds in Germany.

In Germany, there are many Labradors that are at home on sofas, in courtyards, and in our houses. The vast majority of these dogs are never and have never been trained as hunting dogs, rather they lead the life of a spoiled family pet.

So a Lab has a hunting instinct, but in most dogs that instinct has been bred down through generations.

#6 Labradors and kittens

Kittens are so adorable and cuddly, and it can be difficult to imagine that something so small and cute could cause any real trouble. But just wait for your kitty to grow bigger and more confident, biting and scratching everything in sight - including your Lab!

So it means that cats and Labradors have to be gently and calmly accustomed to each other. Just like with people, first impressions count. There are a few rules and precautions to keep in mind when socializing your Labrador with a cat.
