10 Adorable Doberman Tattoos That Will Melt Your Heart

A long time ago, in the late 19th century, there was a tax collector named Louis Dobermann who lived in Apolda, Türingen, Germany. His money collector job was dangerous as there were bandits in the area who would attack him on his rounds.

Because Dobermann was also the town’s dog catcher, he often took a dog with him for protection. Doberman Pinschers began breeding dogs to be loyal companions and protectors. The result of his breeding experiments was the early Doberman Pinscher.

There is no record of which dogs Dobermann used to create his breed, although it is speculated that the Rottweiler, German Pinscher, and black and brown terriers were part of the mix. In 1876 the Dobie was first shown and received with great enthusiasm.

When Dobermann died in 1894, the true knowledge of the breed combinations used to create the Dobie was also buried. Because of his contribution to the creation of the breed, the dog was named after him in his honor.
