Why Do Chihuahuas Fart?

Every dog needs to fart occasionally. This is nothing unusual. However, if your Chihuahua has frequent foul-smelling flatulence, the diet should be examined more closely.

Often the culprits are nutritional errors, an unbalanced feeding method, or unsuitable food. Bad proteins, too much fat, or lactose can stimulate gas production in the intestine and cause bloating. If necessary, a change of feed should be considered here. Use products that have a high meat content and contain as few fillers or grains as possible.

It’s also possible that your Chihuahua is simply swallowing too much air while eating. This is more common in brachycephalic breeds.

If the flatulence just doesn’t go away or other symptoms such as diarrhea or fever appear, it’s better to go to the veterinary practice. Unfortunately, apparently harmless winds can also be caused by infections, various gastrointestinal diseases, or parasites. In addition, the veterinarian can help set up an appropriate diet plan for the Chihuahua.
