The Science Behind Dog Licking
The act of a dog licking another dog’s butt is known as anal licking, and it serves a number of purposes. Firstly, dogs use their sense of smell to communicate with one another, and the scent glands located in the anus are one of the most potent sources of scent. By licking another dog’s butt, a dog is able to gather information about the other dog’s health, diet, and emotional state. Secondly, dogs may lick one another as a way of showing affection and grooming one another. This behavior is especially common among dogs that live in groups or packs. Finally, dogs may lick one another as a sign of submission or respect. In this case, the dog being licked is usually the dominant member of the group or pack.
