Pyrenean Mastiffs and Neapolitan Mastiffs are both large, powerful dog breeds that have been bred for centuries to serve as guardians of people and property. Origins and History of Pyrenean Mastiffs and Neapolitan Mastiffs
Pyrenean Mastiffs originated in the mountainous regions of northern Spain, where they were used to guard flocks of sheep from predators. These dogs have been around for thousands of years, and were even mentioned by Roman historians. Neapolitan Mastiffs, on the other hand, are a more recent breed that was developed in southern Italy in the 19th century. They were used as guard dogs for estates and farms, and were also used in dogfighting. Today, both breeds are recognized by the American Kennel Club, and are popular pets and working dogs around the world.
