Dog Liability Insurance
Dog liability insurance is recommended for every dog owner because your private liability insurance does not assume any liability for your four-legged friend. So if your darling causes major damage, this can be expensive for you without insurance.
Dog liability insurance is therefore one of the most important insurance policies for dog owners. Dog liability usually covers personal injury, property damage, and financial loss to third parties that were unintentionally caused by your dog or dogs.
So if your darling sweeps the expensive vase off the coffee table with a tail wag when visiting friends, the dog liability insurance will take effect. Or if a cyclist is forced to avoid the four-legged friend on the road and injures himself, the dog liability insurance covers the costs incurred by the cyclist. You can thus protect yourself against the costs of such damage caused by your dog.
Damage caused to you as a dog owner is not covered by the insurance for your dog.
Protection from as little as 10 euros per month
Many dog insurance companies offer protection for all breeds for less than 10 euros per month (depending on the tariff). An exception to this is so-called “fighting dogs”. Some companies refuse to insure damage caused by these animals or only do so on different terms. Thus, it can be expensive for owners of dog breeds classified as dangerous.
For several dogs, some providers offer a “volume discount” on dog liability insurance. The rate for the insurance is then a little lower. A kind of “family insurance” is also possible for bitches used for breeding. In this case, the puppies can be insured free of charge by some companies. Here it is worthwhile to thoroughly compare the various providers in order to quickly get the ideal dog insurance for you and your dog at an acceptable cost.
Find out more about possible special services. For example, you can take out insurance that includes damage to the rented property or insure the dog for sled races. It is worthwhile to carefully compare the rates and offers of the dog insurance you are considering.
In some federal states, dog liability insurance is mandatory. In some regions, this is limited to certain breeds of dogs. You should therefore ask the public order office whether liability insurance is a must for your dog.
Extra tip: You can claim dog liability insurance in your tax return and state it under “Precautionary expenses”. So you can indirectly save a little on dog insurance.
Dog Health Insurance
Unfortunately, it is unavoidable that your four-legged friend has to go to the doctor from time to time. Regardless of whether your dog is actually ill or it is just a check-up: the veterinary costs quickly add up to a hefty sum. This is where dog health insurance comes into play.
This dog insurance is voluntary, so every dog owner must decide for themselves whether or not to take out health insurance for dogs. However, if your dog gets sick and has to go to the vet, this can be expensive for “private patients”. Whether a blood test, X-ray, MRI, ECG, or ultrasound: the veterinarian will bill you for everything individually if you don’t have the right insurance. If your dog has health insurance, the dog health insurance will cover the costs either partially or in full, depending on the conditions.
Protection from 20 euros per month
Depending on the tariff, dog health insurance is available for around 20 euros a month. The actual costs depend on the scope of the desired services. If you want to take out dog health insurance, it is advisable to do some research and then determine which services make sense for your dog.
It is also important to compare with this dog insurance, because some insurance companies also take on routine measures such as vaccinations, deworming, and tick prevention for dogs. Others offer share purchases for lower contributions. This means that in an emergency you may have to pay a high deductible.
In addition, the contribution depends on your animal. Age in particular plays an important role. You usually get better conditions for dogs under the age of five. The older the dog is, the more difficult it becomes to be able to take out health insurance for it at all. Some providers refuse to insure older animals since they naturally need medical care sooner and more often.
Some insurance for dogs includes special services, such as daily hospital benefits. If you, as a dog owner, have to go to the hospital, your dog’s insurance company will support you with some money, e.g. B. in a pension or with a dog sitter.
Depending on the provider, dog insurance can also include legal expenses insurance for dogs in the event of illness. This applies when disputes need to be clarified.
Dog Surgery Insurance
As an alternative to health insurance, there is dog surgery insurance. When comparing, it is noticeable that this is a slimmed-down version of regular dog insurance in the event of illness. Consequently, the tariffs differ. And the protection of dog insurance is different here.
Dog surgery insurance covers the costs of surgery should your pet need it. However, it only works if a surgical intervention takes place under anesthesia. Depending on the scope, the surgical insurance also takes over the pre-and aftercare examinations.
If you want to protect your pet and yourself in case of an emergency, dog surgery insurance is advisable. Because if your four-legged friend needs immediate surgical intervention, e.g. B. necessary because of an accident, everything must be clarified quickly – including the finances. Some doctors act first when it is clear that the dog owner can bear the costs of the procedure. If you have dog surgery insurance, you don’t waste time unnecessarily in an emergency.
Protection from 10 euros per month
Dog surgery insurance costs between 10 and 20 euros a month, depending on the tariff and insurance. However, if you have taken out dog health insurance, the benefits of surgical insurance are usually already included and covered. Again, it is worthwhile to thoroughly compare insurers and tariffs in order to find the best dog insurance for your darling.
