Introduction: What is an ibis?
The ibis is a wading bird commonly found in wetlands and marshes around the world. There are approximately 30 species of ibis, with the most well-known being the sacred ibis, which was worshipped by the ancient Egyptians. Ibises are known for their long, curved beaks and their distinctive plumage, which ranges from white to dark brown.
Culinary history of ibis
The ibis has been consumed by humans for thousands of years, with evidence of ibis bones being found in ancient Egyptian tombs and Roman ruins. In some cultures, such as in parts of Africa, ibis meat is still considered a delicacy and is consumed on special occasions. However, in many parts of the world, eating ibis is now illegal due to conservation concerns.
