The Stupidest Dog Breeds But So Much More Adorable

When it comes to dogs, are quite intelligent. However, not everyone is as smart as the others. What are the dumbest dog breeds and that dogs don’t bring you the morning paper or make your houseguests oooh and aaah with their clever tricks? According to research, the next few breeds are less intellectually promising than most other dogs. The intelligence of all these breeds was determined by Canadian and US Kennel Club judges and the time it took for a dog breed to master a new command. Obviously, we’ve discovered that this can only make these dogs that much more adorable.

Afghan Hound

Most people familiar with the silky-coated afghan will readily concede that they can be among the most neurotic of tribes. The independent nature of these dogs makes them extremely difficult to train; Despite this, they are also affectionate dogs who love to be welcomed into the family pack. Afghans are sensitive dogs that can increase the difficulty of their training when coupled with increased freedom.

Basset Hound

The endearing face, hanging ears and bloodshot eyes give this dog an endearing personality to most people, but unfortunately, this breed is not one of the very intelligent ones. The basset hound has an amazing sense of smell and when trained they could put their nose to the whetstone, but it’s the amount of work it takes to get the dog there that doesn’t make it. Basset Hounds are notoriously difficult to train and over-housetraining may be a necessity, but where they fail at speed learning, they shine at companionship. Bassets make great family dogs but need owners to stand by them through quite a long learning curve.

Beagle

The Beagle often draws people in with its long floppy ears and its own cute rounded muzzle, but if you’re looking for an easy-to-train dog, the Beagle isn’t for you. This tri-colored breed is an endearing but conscious dog and it is this tenacity that makes this strain a spot on the least intelligent list. Paradoxically, however, the Beagle is a particularly intelligent and driven breed, but it’s their stubbornness that makes them a difficult tag to train. This breed needs a patient owner and early socialization but makes a great family pet if taught consistently.

Mastiff

Many people see the Mastiff as a dumb ox and unfortunately (like the Beagle) they are often labeled unintelligent dogs due to their stubborn and independent nature. Mastiffs have the wisdom; Still, their reluctance to obey someone they don’t consider a company and a competent leader carries the label of unintelligent to being labeled stupid. This is a great family dog, however, due to its size, it needs constant exercise to grow into a manageable and socially acceptable dog.

Pekinese

Ask most dog trainers and they will tell you that Pekingese are among the most difficult dog breeds to train. Most will agree Great Danes are less difficult to train! Pekingese are dogs that often get through due to their small stature. Since these smaller dogs are babies nonetheless, their dominant nature continues to grow. These small dogs tend to be affectionate towards their master, but finding small children and other critters can be a hassle. This dog should always be given constant socialization to avoid nibbling.

Bloodhound

The Bloodhound is an incredibly talented scent hound, which is why they are typically used by search and rescue teams or professional trackers. Unfortunately for this hard-working breed, bloodhounds are not considered the smartest of dogs. Bloodhounds make great family dogs and work well with children and the elderly, but they call for a company leader. This breed can be a source of considerable frustration to impatient trainers, but with the ideal trainer, the Bloodhound is determined to succeed.

Borzoi

The borzoi is not the best-known breed of dog but is considered by connoisseurs to be exceptionally feline. This obsessively washing dog is an independent breed that resembles a cat not only in its cleaning habits but also in its lack of desire to please. While most dogs have only been driven to please their families, the borzoi is not so driven and will require its owner to work hard to raise them. Once a dog owner has proven to the tribe that they are capable of strong leadership, they are continually rewarded with loyalty and companionship.

Chow Chow

The chow, or even the lion dog, is another amazingly stubborn dog breed that puts its stubborn nature on the list of least intelligent dogs. Chow Chows are very dominant dogs and without a sociable and devoted owner, they are almost impossible to tame. If allowed, this strain will take the top spot in the pack and while she always provides healthy company, she shouldn’t be allowed to dominate.

Bulldog

Bulldogs are powerful and brave dogs in tiny packs nonetheless, they aren’t known for quickly asserting themselves. These short stocky dogs make great watchdogs and amazing family dogs but need a dedicated owner who will work repeatedly to train them well. The Bulldog is also known for its need for human affection, which can be overwhelming for owners used to independent breeds. Bulldogs, like many of the strains in this listing, require lifetime guidance.

Basenji

The Basenji is another rarely seen dog breed from the United States that has embraced a feline lifestyle. This breed is famous for rarely barking or snoring in a way that sounds like human laughter. This individual dog is very active and needs a solid owner who is patient and able to work with them to teach them. Basenjis must have proper socialization to develop into healthy dogs.
