Introduction: What is Teeth Shedding in Puppies?
Teeth shedding is a normal part of the development process for puppies. Just like humans, puppies have baby teeth, also known as deciduous teeth, that will eventually fall out to make room for their adult teeth. This process is known as teeth shedding or tooth replacement. Puppies usually start shedding their baby teeth when they are around three to four months old, and by the time they are six to eight months old, they should have all of their adult teeth.
Understanding the Anatomy of Puppy Teeth
Just like adult dogs, puppies have four types of teeth: incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. Puppies have 28 baby teeth, which will eventually be replaced by 42 adult teeth. The baby teeth start to emerge when the puppy is around three weeks old, and they are usually all in place by the time the puppy is eight weeks old. The adult teeth start to emerge when the puppy is around four months old, and they will continue to come in until the puppy is around eight months old.
The Timeline of Puppy Teeth Shedding
The timeline of puppy teeth shedding is fairly predictable. Puppies usually start shedding their baby teeth when they are around three to four months old, and the process continues until the puppy is around eight months old. The incisors are usually the first baby teeth to fall out, followed by the canines and then the premolars. The molars are usually the last baby teeth to fall out. The adult teeth will then continue to come in until the puppy is around eight months old. By this point, the puppy should have all of its adult teeth.
