Horst Schmidt and Rudi Proll portrayed 535 chicken, duck, goose, and pigeon breeds in the book “Rassegeflügel Kompakt”. The work includes a total of 850 photos because there is usually one picture for the rooster and one for the hen. The book focuses entirely on the individual breeds and leaves all other chicken-related topics to other authors. In the short description, pictograms provide information about bodyweight, laying performance, and the qualities of use for self-sufficient people. The book covers the entire spectrum of breed poultry and is therefore very popular. In a somewhat more detailed description, the origin and history of the individual breeds are described in more detail. Anyone who would like to combine their entry into poultry farming with a family outing can find inspiration in the special exhibition “Underestimated Poultry”, which will be on display until April 5, 2021, in the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen. The exhibition is suitable for young and old. You can immerse yourself in the fascinating world of chickens, learn everything about the history of poultry and even marvel at a tenfold enlargement of the skeleton of a broiler chicken. In addition to highlighting the economic importance of chickens, numerous breed chickens are shown in the form of preparations.
