Common Causes of Hair in Dogs’ Eyes
Hair getting in a dog’s eyes is a common issue that many pet owners face. The causes of this problem can vary, but some of the most common causes include a dog’s breed-specific hair growth patterns, allergies and skin conditions, eye shape and size, grooming techniques and tools, environmental factors, age-related changes in hair growth, behavioral habits, genetics and inherited traits, eye infections and injuries, and excessive tearing and discharge.
Breed-Specific Hair Growth Patterns
Different dog breeds have different hair growth patterns, and this can cause some breeds to be more prone to hair in their eyes than others. Breeds with long, curly, or wiry hair, such as Poodles, Schnauzers, and Terriers, are more likely to have hair in their eyes. In contrast, breeds with short hair, such as Boxers and Bulldogs, are less likely to have this problem.
Allergies and Skin Conditions
Allergies and skin conditions can cause a dog’s hair to become dry, brittle, and prone to falling out. When this happens, the hair is more likely to get into the dog’s eyes. Allergies and skin conditions can also cause a dog to scratch and rub its face, which can further exacerbate the problem. If your dog has allergies or a skin condition, it is important to work with your veterinarian to manage the condition and prevent hair from getting into your dog’s eyes.
