Introduction: Understanding Norfolk Spaniels
Norfolk Spaniels are a breed of dog that originated in England. They are known for their friendly and outgoing personalities, as well as their intelligence and loyalty. These dogs are small to medium-sized, with a distinctive wiry coat that comes in shades of red, wheaten, black, or grizzle. While Norfolk Spaniels are generally healthy dogs, like all breeds, they are susceptible to certain health issues, including ear infections.
Anatomy of Norfolk Spaniel Ears
Norfolk Spaniels have long, floppy ears that hang down close to their heads. This type of ear structure is common in many breeds of dogs, and unfortunately, it also makes them more prone to developing ear infections. The reason for this is that the ear canal in dogs with floppy ears is often warm, moist, and dark, which creates the perfect environment for bacteria and yeast to grow. Additionally, the shape of their ear canals makes it difficult for air to circulate and dry out the ear canal, which can also contribute to infection.
