Care and Health of the Plott Hound

Thanks to its short coat, the Plott Hound is very easy to care for. Occasional brushing or combing is sufficient. However, the size of this dog breed makes it possible to develop hip dysplasia (HD).

In general, however, active hunting dogs have a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years if they are in good health.

Activities with the Plott Hound

The Plott Hound likes to be outside in nature and of course, wants to spend a lot of time with his owner. The following activities are suitable for this sporty dog breed:

  • use in hunting;
  • jog;
  • hikes;
  • bike ride;
  • agility;
  • mantrailing.

Mantrailing: Mantrailing is about following the trail of a specific person. Person detection dogs are mainly used by the police and are characterized by excellent nose work.
