In the classification of the largest cynological umbrella organization “Fédération Cynologique Internationale” (FCI), the Shih Tzu belongs to group 9 “companion and companion dogs” and therein to section 5 “Tibetan dog breeds”.
The Shih Tzu is a small dog that, according to the FCI standard, can reach a size of up to 27 cm and weigh up to 8 kg. It owes its fluffy appearance to its long, dense fur with plenty of undercoats. It comes in many colors (also piebald) and the long floppy ears are often difficult to recognize due to a large amount of fur.
