Unfortunately, it is not possible to generalize which is the best Chihuahua food. What is good for one dog may not tolerate another Chi at all. And since tastes are known to differ, not every breed representative likes the same food.
However, there are some indications that speak for good dog food:
- High meat content
- Contains fruits and vegetables
- At least 18% crude protein
- No grain
- No sugar
- No coloring or preservatives
- No flavor enhancers
- Understandably declared ingredients
- Contains high-quality fats
- Contains no by-products
You can feed your Chihuahua healthy and species-appropriate with both dry and wet food. Even BARF is possible with the small dog, although many owners find it difficult to put together the small menus in a balanced way.
When buying ready-made food, make sure that the kibble size is small. There are also products specifically designed for small dog breeds.
Tip: The Chihuahua only needs a very small amount of food per day. A very high-quality (even if somewhat more expensive) product can often be used. Choose the best possible food within your budget.
