In the Dog Bakery – Christmas Treats

The Christmas season is getting closer and the anticipation of delicious Christmas cookies is slowly increasing. But what about our beloved four-legged friends? Of course, they are not allowed to eat our pastries. How about Christmas recipes for dogs? In this article, we share two recipes for Christmas cookies that you can use to make your furry friend happy at Christmas time.

Cinnamon stars

You can no longer imagine the Christmas season without cinnamon. You can also make your four-legged friend happy with it. Under no circumstances should cinnamon be fed in large quantities, as this can lead to vomiting or drowsiness in dogs.

Ingredients:

  • 200g wholemeal spelt flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp ground hazelnuts
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 tbsp carob powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Little helper:

  • mixer
  • 2 bowls
  • rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters (e.g. stars)

Preparation:

The first step is to mix together the whole spelt flour, ground hazelnuts, carob powder and cinnamon. Next, the egg and honey need to be beaten in another bowl until the mass is foamy. When that is done, the oil can be added. The mixture of dry ingredients can now be gradually mixed in. Make the dough smooth, spread it out on a floured table and the dough can be cut out. Finally, bake the pastry in the oven at 160 degrees top and bottom heat for 15 minutes. After the cinnamon stars have cooled down, they can be decorated with dog chocolate or dog yoghurt drops, for example. When everything has cooled down, your four-legged friend can start tasting.

Savoury Cookies

Not everything has to taste sweet at Christmas time. This recipe is a delicious, hearty alternative that your furry friend will be happy about.

Ingredients:

  • 400g wholemeal flour
  • 170g rolled oats
  • 40g Emmental
  • 350ml of water
  • 1 carrot
  • 4 tbsp linseed oil
  • 4 tablespoons dandelion or chopped parsley

Little helper:

  • spoon
  • key
  • rolling pin
  • cookie cutters

Preparation:

First, the washed carrot must be sliced. The carrot only has to be peeled when it is older and no longer looks fresh. Now chop the dandelion or parsley as small as possible. Then all the ingredients have to be put in a bowl and stirred together. Meanwhile, the water can be gradually mixed in. If the carrot is very juicy, less water may be needed. Now the dough can be kneaded on the work surface until all the ingredients are well mixed. If it is still too dry, water can be added. However, it is important to know that the dough is generally firmer than usual. Now the dough can be made smooth on the surface and cut out with cookie cutters. Now bake the cookies for 50 to 60 minutes at 160 degrees circulating air or 180 degrees top and bottom heat in the oven. With this recipe, too, it is important that the biscuits are only fed when they have cooled.
