This is How You Avoid the Dog Being Injured During Winter Training

When the days are short, we of course want to make the most of the few hours of sunshine we have and quickly get started with the dog’s training. But be careful and prepare the dog for exercise. This way you can avoid multiple injuries.

There are various ways to ensure that the dog’s exercise is a pleasant moment that does not wear on the body. Arrange the dog’s training in a similar way as people train – with a warm-up, training, and stretch.

Warm-up Before Training

If the dog is going to run, have a habit of always warming up properly before. Take a quarter of an hour walk with the dog on a leash – after that, the dog is ready for more strenuous training and play. When a dog goes for a run without being able to warm up, it wears hard on joints and cruciate ligaments. Acute cruciate ligament injuries generally need to be operated on immediately. Warm-up properly to reduce the risk. If the dog has received a cruciate ligament injury on one leg, it also runs a high risk of also getting a cruciate ligament injury on the other leg.

Train Responsibly During the Winter

A snowy and icy surface requires care and your dog can slip as much as you during a walk. Therefore, leave the dog on a leash if you are going on ice. When a dog slips and the legs slip apart, the dog can get both joint injuries and muscle strains, which take time to recover from. If you have a good harness for the dog, it is a good aid for getting the dog to walk in a controlled manner on slippery surfaces.

Stretch After Exercise

When you come in from training, stretching is a great way to keep the dog fit and fit. Gently pull out and soften your dog’s joints. Do it carefully and take your time. This extra care keeps your dog healthy and you can enjoy the winter adventures together.
