Watch Out For Poisonous Plants!

Sure, they are beautiful to look at, but beware! Some common plants are toxic to dogs.

Now it is blooming in gardens around the country. But did you know that some of our common garden plants are poisonous?

Common plants such as lieutenant heart, rhododendron, and clematis. It can be good to think about if you have a dog that happily chews most of the time, perhaps especially if it is a small puppy. Most plants are not deadly, but they can cause stomach upset, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, some plants can also cause heart rhythm disturbances and seizures.

If your dog has ingested something toxic, medically activated carbon can alleviate the effect. Active is available in liquid form. But it is also available in powder form. Mix the powder with water and inject it into the dog’s mouth. A few tablespoons are enough to relieve.

A tip is to always have a few bags of charcoal in the dog pharmacy or in the first aid bag when you go out and travel. Activated carbon can also be used to treat temporary summer diarrhea. It is not dangerous to give activated carbon “unnecessarily”.
