The pug is a compact, well-proportioned, stocky dog. The head is of medium size relative to the body. The skull is flat between the ears, slightly convex. The forehead is flat, covered with deep symmetrical wrinkles and folds. The transition from forehead to muzzle is sharp and deep. The muzzle is very short, blunt, and square. The black nose is large, flat, with well-open nostrils. The bite is a light undershot. The ears are thin, small, triangular in shape, with rounded ends, set high and wide apart, close to the skull. The eyes are dark and round. The neck is short, powerful, set high. The skin is loose, in symmetrical folds forming a slight dewlap. The back is short, straight, strong, and muscular. The abdomen is moderately tucked up. The tail is short, set high, curled up in a very tight, small ring, adjacent to the back. The limbs are well muscled. Paws slightly elongated, arched, tightly knit, with strong black pads and short strong nails.
