History of Bumble Bee Foods Ownership
Over the years, Bumble Bee Foods has had several different owners. The company was originally owned by a group of seven fishermen who called themselves the Pacific Tuna Canning Company. In 1917, the company changed its name to Bumble Bee Seafoods and was sold to the Can Company of America. In 1969, Bumble Bee was purchased by Castle & Cooke, a Hawaiian-based company. Castle & Cooke later merged with Dole to form the Dole Food Company. In 1985, Bumble Bee was sold again, this time to Pillsbury. Pillsbury later merged with General Mills, and Bumble Bee became part of the General Mills family.
