This elegant dog was kept as a hunting dog at the Weimaraner court as early as the beginning of the 19th century. The breed was then recorded in the studbook in 1890.
How Big & How Heavy Will It Be?
This breed of dog can reach a length of up to 70 cm. The weight varies depending on the size up to 30 kg.
Coat, Colors & Care
Weimaraners are one of the particularly beautiful, ie noble and elegant dog breeds.
The breed can be divided into two different types of coat. There is the short-haired and the rarer long-haired breed.
By far the most well-known is the short-haired type. The topcoat of these dogs is very short, fine, sometimes a bit strong, and also stock-haired. In the long-haired type, the topcoat is about 3 cm long. It can appear slightly longer in various places, such as the chest.
Typical coat colors of the Weimaraner are solid shades of grey. These can tend towards different shades of color, silver-grey is common, sometimes a brownish-red gray also occurs.
This dog breed’s eyes are typically blue when they are young. With age, the eye color becomes amber.
Nature, Temperament
Weimaraner dogs are intelligent and sensitive dogs with strong personalities.
But they are also characterized by their calm nature and, in particular, by their docility and attachment. This dog is hardworking, courageous, and alert by nature.
Its behavior towards children and other conspecifics is often not very good. Other breeds are much better suited as family dogs. Nevertheless, it is very sensitive and is sometimes even used as a therapy dog. If children live in the household, they must learn to respect the dog if it wants to be left alone.

Occasionally, these dogs are very stubborn and even stubborn. All the more important is a dog handler who sets clear goals and is calm enough not to be disturbed.
It is by no means a beginner’s dog that one would only want to own for image reasons because of its beautiful appearance. It takes a lot of time to train this dog well. The dog breed is known for its urge to move, which is ideally expressed when hunting.

Keeping them indoors is not recommended, they feel more comfortable in a house with a garden.

By nature, the Weimaraner is hardworking, focused, and very persistent at work. He can also develop a certain sharpness here. When used as a hunting dog, it is mainly used as a pointing dog.
Because of its alert nature, this breed is also suitable as a guard dog. Occasionally he is used as a therapy dog.
