#13 Obesity is a serious problem for Basset Hounds.
They love to eat and will overeat at any opportunity. If they gain too much weight, they can develop joint and back problems. Portion his food relative to your Basset Hound's condition, not according to the directions on the food bag or can.
#14 Because Basset Hounds are prone to bloating (a potentially fatal condition), it’s best to feed them two or three smaller meals a day.
Don't allow your basset hound to overexert himself after a meal and monitor him for about an hour after eating to make sure he's okay.
