The first litter was born in 1930 and the first dog registered with the American Kennel Club was Stina v Felsenmeer, 1931. After World War II the breed became more popular. At the time he was primarily known as an excellent obedience dog.

In the mid-1990s, the Rottweiler's popularity was at its peak when there were more than 100,000 registered in the American Kennel Club. If you're a dog, fame isn't necessarily a good thing. It is not uncommon for irresponsible breeders and mass breeders to try to cash in on the breed's popularity and produce puppies without looking at their health and temperament issues. This also happened to the Rottweiler breed, to the point of bad publicity and reduced demand.
#2 Dedicated, reputable breeders see this as an opportunity to change the breed and ensure Rottweilers are the kind of dogs they were meant to be. Today, Rottweilers rank 17th out of 155 breeds and varieties registered with the AKC.

In the Swabian town of Rottweil, cattle dealers and their herds met as early as Roman times. Intrepid, persistent, agile, extremely frugal and robust cattle dogs were their most important tools.
