Rottweiler – Pronto para trabalhar e carinhoso

Even if the Rottweiler is listed as an aggressive dog in some federal states, as well as in some parts of Switzerland and Austria, i.e. considered potentially dangerous, and the content is subject to certain restrictions, their nature is in fact not fundamentally aggressive. On the contrary: according to the FCI breed standard, they are considered friendly, peaceful, obedient, loving with children, and ready to work.

But it is this will to work and the driving qualities that they bring with them due to their origin that must be encouraged and properly used.

Because the Rottweiler is one of the oldest dog breeds, whose ancestors are said to have stood with the Romans. There they were used by the legions to drive and protect livestock across the Alps.

  • Altura: 61 a 68 centímetros (masculino); 56 a 63 centímetros (fêmea)
  • Colour: Black with reddish-brown markings.

Origin: City of Rottweil

However, the breed received its name and current form only in the city of Rottweil, where, as they say, Roman dogs mixed with local four-legged friends. The resulting animals were distinguished by strength, endurance, vigilance, and, of course, the ability to drive, which made them popular at that time as working, guard and guarding dogs in cattle breeding.

Because of these many positive characteristics, Rottweilers are also ideal for the police and military, which was recognized as early as 1910, which is why they have been recognized and used as a service dog breed ever since.

Atividade

Physical and mental preparation is very important for this dog breed. Their willingness to work must be satisfied in any case, so that the animals are really busy. In addition to long walks, which are necessary for windy and bad weather, dog sports should also be practiced. Obedience, trail work, or racing sports are good for keeping tenacious working dogs on their toes. Agility is also possible, although as with all large dog breeds, you should avoid jumping to protect your joints.

Características da raça

Although the Rottweiler can be dangerous, like any other dog, it is more of friendliness, affection, loyalty, and obedience. With an experienced, competent, and, above all, loving upbringing, you will certainly get to know the gentle and child-loving nature of these dogs.

Of course, due to their origin, they are also vigilant, attentive, and have a protective instinct, so a four-legged friend will pay close attention to the integrity of his family. Here it is necessary to intervene and show the Rottweiler the boundaries – when protection is desirable and when not.

Recomendações

The Rottweiler should always be given to experienced owners who know how to train the dog consistently, but at the same time in the way that suits the species, with patience, calmness, and love. It is also important that you have time for your four-legged friend and that you want to play sports or work with him. Do not be afraid of long walks, extensive excursions – for example, to the lake – or dog games.

Rottweiler should also be kept in a house with a garden in the countryside whenever possible. So it can frolic between walks. If the dog is to be housed in an apartment, which of course is possible with enough square meters, it must be able to actually work outside. City residence of 40 square meters on the fifth floor, in the vicinity of which only main roads pass along and across, therefore it is not suitable under any circumstances.

Because the busier the dog is, the more balanced it is.
