O calor ameaça a morte: como proteger um cão no verão

Temperatures are rising, and while we humans enjoy the sun to weaken our crown, the heat is a lethal danger for many dogs. Therefore, animal rights activists and dog handlers explicitly warn against careless behavior that poses a danger to animals.

Unlike us humans, most pets cannot cool down by sweating through their skin, but mostly by drinking or breathing. Every year there are more and more dogs that have to be let out of the car.

This is why animal rights activists give advice on how to make summer more bearable and, above all, less dangerous for your dog.

Never Leave Your Dog Alone in the Car

Dogs and other animals should not be left alone in the car in hot weather, even for a few minutes. Even if the car is parked in the shade and the sky appears cloudy, it can change quickly. Opening the window is not enough. Cars quickly heat up to temperatures of up to 50 degrees – a death trap for the animals in them.

Take a Walk When It’s a Little Cooler

In hot weather, go out with your dog before 8 or after 8 o’clock. If your dog needs to pee during the day, walk in the shade.

You can walk in the woods. Because there your dog, unlike in open areas, is not exposed to the unprotected exposure of the sun but is in the shade of trees.

Check If the Ground is Too Hot

There is an easy way to check if the floor is so hot that your dog cannot walk on it without pain. Just touch the floor with your hands for a few seconds. If the ground is too hot, don’t let your dog run on it.

Preste atenção aos sinais de alerta

Pay close attention to your dog’s body language in the summer – and always watch for the following warning signs: “Dogs have glazed eyes, a dark red tongue, and heavy breathing with a stretched neck are some signs that the heat is too intense. a lot for them, ”animal rights activists say. “In addition, vomiting, imbalance, and ultimately loss of consciousness are signs of heatstroke, which in the worst case can lead to the death of the animal.”

If your dog develops symptoms suggestive of heatstroke, you should see your veterinarian immediately. “On the way, you can gently place the animal on wet towels and gently cool the paws, but do not cover the entire body with the towel.”
