What we love most about our dogs is their attachment, their devotion in some cases, and that they always try to please us.
Sometimes, however, the search for closeness to a master or mistress becomes a little annoying. After all, there are situations where everyone would like a little freedom or would like to be on their own.
Going to the toilet, for example, is something we like to do alone!
Tracking at every step
When they are puppies we find this attachment and tracking of our movements extremely cute and we gladly allow it.
But if your puppy then grows into a dog with a shoulder height of up to 70 cm, it can get a bit cramped in the toilet.
They then sit next to you with interest, sniff, observe, and are sometimes even tensely alert.
Protection even in the most intimate places
Dogs, as the former descendants of wolves, are perfect pack animals. This is one of the reasons why some breeds feel most comfortable in large families.
Members of a pack protect each other. Your dog doesn’t even have to have an alpha gene for this.
The pursuit to the toilet thus fulfills a protective function. Sitting with your pants down, you seem vulnerable to your four-legged friend. So he does his duty as a pack animal and ensures your protection with a watchful attitude!
If your furry friend also feels like an alpha and you like to let him have his way, then it’s all the more his job to keep an eye on you.
The wrong solution
Out of desperation, many people slam the door in their dogs’ faces and lock it. There are the very intelligent ones who know how to open doors!
Locking your four-legged friend out does not solve the problem. On the contrary, now you arouse not only his vigilance but also his curiosity!

Once you start training your puppy and he “Sit!” or “place” mastered, you also make him the command “stay!” to teach. This is important in many future situations anyway.
From now on, your puppy will remain in front of the door in a waiting position, or rather in a “stay” position. He will quickly learn that you never stay in this room very long and always come back to him unscathed.
It is important to implement this educational measure right from the start or to be patient with an older dog. But always be consistent!
