It is clear that the Slovensky Kopov can already look back on centuries of history. However, where exactly this story began cannot be said 100%. Its roots are believed to lie in the mountainous regions of Slovakia.
This dog breed has always been used as a guard dog for houses and yards. Also as a companion when hunting predators and wild boar.
Purebred breeding was started by breeders in the Czech Republic and Slovakia during and after World War II.
Around 1960, the dog breed was finally recognized by the FCI. In 1988 a breeding club of Czechoslovak hunters was established.
