Origin of Slovenský Cuvac

The Slovenský Cuvac is originally descended from the arctic wolves. The name, in turn, comes from the Slovak word “cuvat”, which translated into English means something like “to hear”.

It is precisely this characteristic of the watchful dog that ensured that it was used in particular as a watchdog for sheep and cattle herds on the farms. He also protected his master’s farms from robbers in the Tatra region.

Tip: If you are interested in the detailed history of the dog, you can read his story on the official FCI website. You can find the corresponding link at the end of this article.

The dog has its origins in Slovakia and was officially recognized as a dog breed by the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) in 1996.
