#8 Like many small dogs, the Coton de Tuléar is prone to problems with the kneecaps, also known as luxating the patella.
Look out for a breeder who cares about health care and only uses parent animals for breeding that do not have this defect in them. Because it also applies to this breed: A reputable breeder is the best investment in your dog's health. Otherwise, the Coton de Tuléar is a very sturdy little dog. Especially in summer, make sure that it doesn't get too warm under the soft fur and give it access to a cool spot.
#9 As uncomplicated as the Coton de Tuléar may otherwise be, grooming is comparatively complex.
The cotton-soft coat needs daily brushing or it becomes matted. Tip: Always dampen your Coton's hair with a grooming spray, for example, before brushing. This prevents the fine hair from breaking during grooming.
