Eurasier: Temperament, Size, Life Expectancy

Attentive Family Dog - the Eurasier

This dog breed has only existed since the 1960s and was deliberately bred with the help of Konrad Lorenz, among others. They wanted to breed a family-friendly sled dog (polar dog) and added the Chow-Chow and the Wolfspitz. A few years later, the Asian dog breed Samoyed was also crossed.

The result of this successful breeding is the Eurasier. Its shape is reminiscent of a primitive sled dog.

How Big & How Heavy Will It Be?

The Eurasier can reach a height of 50-60 cm and a weight of 30 kg.

Coat, Grooming & Color

The topcoat of this dog breed is of medium length with a dense undercoat. Occasionally there are also short-haired dogs.

Coat color varies from red to dun, black with and without markings, and wolf gray. The tongue is sometimes blue or blue-flecked, suggesting its Chow Chow ancestry.

Nature, Temperament

In its nature, the Eurasier is sensitive, open, willing to learn, alert, and attentive.

These dogs get along well with children, so they are very suitable as family dogs.

These dogs are willing to learn and curious and therefore easy to train. However, stupid and repetitive exercises quickly bore this intelligent dog and cause him to lose interest. Build the tasks for the dog into everyday life and into walks in unfamiliar surroundings.

Training should begin with puppies. You can playfully introduce the young dog step by step to simple basic exercises.

Keeping them indoors is entirely possible, even if a house with a garden is always the better choice for the dog.

In any case, the Eurasier needs a lot of exercise and exercise.

Life Expectancy

On average, these dogs reach an age of 12 to 15 years.
